It's interesting the
kind of information you'll come across when doing a random search on the
internet. The other day I googled "How to discover your passion" and
I was shocked at how much information and "tests" are out there. But
one site that piqued my interest was "ClarityofFire.com".
There's a quiz on this page that helps you discover and combine your career and
passion to help you live an energized, fulfilling, and inspiring life. Few
people have this privilege. Many grapple with not only finding their true
passion and living by it, but balancing whatever they do to earn a living with
what they need to do to satisfy them.
At the end of the quiz,
you receive a detailed description of the kind of person you are out of these
four categories; Firestarter, Tribe member, Side-hustler,
and Thriver. Turns out I'm a firestarter! Needless to say, as I
went through the description, I wanted to retake the test. And I did. I'm still
a firestarter! You can take the test here.
I wanted to understand
the bigger picture, and I questioned the purpose and long-term benefits of
everything I was doing. Typical behavior of a firestarter by the way. I also
wanted to explore this dogged belief, which had become an obsession, that
I have been called to do something I'm passionate about, something I need to
get paid for, and that should allow for a high level of autonomy and freedom.
During my sessions with my Life Coach, I understood that Freedom is one of my
top five values; I naturally tend to gravitate or get attracted to people and
situations that exhibit the promise of freedom. But I digress.
In my quest to discover
my clarity of fire, I realized that I had been looking in the wrong direction.
I looked everywhere but inward. Here's the thing about passion, it burns from
within, but affects externally.
It’s exactly a year later since I picked up from
where I left off writing this particular blog. So, in this new paragraph, please
forgive me if it sounds or reads completely different from previous paragraphs.
I mean, it’s been a year!! I had a lot of time to look inward, reflect, and
make decisions that have brought me to this point. But before I share where I’m
at on this journey of discovering purpose, let me share something really
profound I learned from a friend the other day:
Have you ever imagined that whatever you are looking
for is looking for you? Including your purpose? Apparently, your purpose is not
for you to find, it finds you! This lesson blew my mind and quite frankly I
struggled a bit embracing this concept because I, like many of you have been
taught and conditioned to always go out there and figure out what on earth we
were called to do! No wonder for many people, this has proved to be an uphill
task or an impossible pursuit. Many give up along the way.
The truth is, I have personally had a really hard
time figuring out this thing. Sometimes I feel like I know exactly what it is,
other times I have no idea what I’m doing and most times I just struggle to
clarify for myself exactly what I’m looking for. So, I decided to take a break
from it all. A year later, so much is clearer. I see the bigger picture now.
So, it turns out I’m very good at helping people figure
out their lives and for the first time, I’m admitting this to myself . I have therefore decided to align myself and
my passions accordingly and here is what I’m going to do:
Ø I’m
building a community of like-minded people who are currently struggling to
figure out their purpose and passions and taking them along on a journey with
me. If you are interested in being part of this community please send me an
email at seekandspark@gmail.com. In
this community, we’ll share stories, struggles, and triumphs about our life’s
purpose and passions and where they are leading us.
Ø Secondly,
I’m changing the name of this blog from Oakwood
Bold to Seek & Spark. Nothing deep, I just need for it to reflect
the current status.
See you soon.
Very profound, Will definitely be taking the Clarity quiz!!
