Receive Sanitized greetings!
So during this
quarantine period, I must say I have had a lot of time in my hands. I am generally
a very busy person and for the longest time I craved to just have a moment to
rest, and recoup, and think and I’m sure a lot of you can relate.
I am a little embarrassed
to say this, but I have been binge-watching Greys Anatomy. I know I am very late
to the party but for those who are like me, this Television Series is about brilliant
Surgical Interns who are eager to start practicing and so they begin their
internship in a renowned hospital under strict supervision of very experienced Surgeons.
So the program basically gives us a behind-the-scenes peek into their personal and
professional struggles as well as triumphs.
Now, I know the
characters in the series are fictional but I couldn’t help but notice their
passion and their eagerness to make medical history while saving lives. It was
interesting to watch them go to extreme lengths just to end up in the Operating
Rooms. I mean these guys would literally fight over sick people, the more
critical the cases the better for them! I wondered whether that is the case
with real-life doctors.
But for a moment
I couldn’t help but feel a little envy for them. Again, I know the characters
are fictional but I was fascinated by how certain they were about their reason
for living. Most of them were not financially stable but it didn’t matter as
long as they had their moment in the Operating Room.
Which brings me
to my subject of discussion today: Purpose! The dictionary defines purpose as
the reason for which something is done or which something exists. One of my
favourite authors the late Dr. Myles Munroe once said that “where purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable”.
I can’t help but
wonder how many of us struggle with figuring out the purpose of our existence.
I know our society has predisposed us into thinking that survival is more important than purpose. And so rather than pursue the things we are passionate
about, we tend to look for opportunities to survive.
It is no wonder we have very many who are
unhappy in life because they are doing things they don’t like or care about.
I strongly opine
that we weren’t created to just survive, but to thrive. We can only thrive and experience
untold joy if we are truly operating in our areas of passion; if like the
doctors in Grey’s Anatomy, we are
truly certain about the reason of our existence and are willing to live and
inevitably die for it!
Some people go
through their whole lives without never truly discovering their purpose and so
their lives are often lacking depth and they continuously have to grapple with
the feeling of emptiness. We cannot be those people. We don’t do that here!
Let’s seek it
out! Happy Searching!
“The purposes of a person’s
heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws the out.” ~ Proverbs 20:5
